The City of San Marcos will host an informational meeting and open house on Wednesday, Aug. 27 to share details about the proposed Oakcrest Specific Plan, a residential and community project from Meritage Homes of California, Inc.
The meeting will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Community Center, 3 Civic Center Drive. A presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by an opportunity for attendees to meet the developer, speak with City staff, and ask questions at information stations. No decisions will be made at this meeting, and it will not be recorded. Feedback gathered will help shape the project before it moves forward to public hearings in 2026.
The proposed project site is located on the west side of North Twin Oaks Valley Road, between Legacy Drive and Del Roy Drive. The plan includes 257 single-family homes, trails, an approximately 6-acre public park, roads, drainage infrastructure, fire buffer areas, and preserved open space. Of the 136-acre site, approximately 84 acres would be developed, while about 52 acres would remain as preserved open space.
The initial park design features paved pump tracks for multi-wheeled recreational devices such as bicycles, scooters, and skateboards. Other likely amenities include shaded areas, picnic spots, restrooms, and a parking lot.
The project applicant is seeking approval of a Specific Plan, General Plan Amendment, Rezone, Site Development Plans, and a Conditional Use Permit. Once the project design and environmental review are completed, the San Marcos Planning Commission will consider the project and make a recommendation to the City Council. The City Council will then vote on the project’s approval. Both meetings are anticipated to take place during the first half of 2026 and will provide additional opportunities for public input.
