San Marcos Town Hall Meeting Gangs, Drugs, Graffiti

On Thursday, April 12th, 2018 the North County Gang Commission will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting for San Marcos residents.

The Town Hall will feature presentations on current issues and an opportunity for San Marcos residents to share their concerns and ideas on reducing gang violence, drugs, graffiti and other issues facing their neighborhoods.

The two rival criminal street gangs in San Marcos are Varrio San Marcos and South Los. Although small by comparison to Escondido and Oceanside, the San Marcos community has seen gang violence in attempted murders, assaults, shootings, gun possessions and vandalisms. These crimes committed by gang members often instill fear and intimidation in the community.
Residents across North County must contend with gang violence, drugs and graffiti in their neighborhoods and schools.

Youth are joining gangs when they are younger.

The North County Gang Commission would like to hear from you if you have experiences and ideas to address gang problems and would like to have your voice heard.
The North County Gang Commission was created in 2008 by San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Its mission is to prevent, disrupt and dismantle gang activity in North County by identifying best practices, recommending support for grants, and advocating for anti-gang programs and organizations.
The Town Hall Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at San Marcos City Hall located at 1 Civic Center Drive, San Marcos CA 92069. Childcare and Spanish translation services will be provided. Resource tables will be on hand for families and those who want to get involved. For more information, please call Gang Commission Chair, Laurie Hauf at 760-213-7228.
