On September 16, 2019 at 3:04 PM, the Escondido Fire Department and the San Diego Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire at Old San Pasqual Road and San Pasqual Valley Road. A San Diego Fire and Rescue Squad was the first on scene and reported approximately one-half acre of light to medium fuels burning at a moderate rate of spread. Although there were structures in the area, none were immediately threatened.
7 Engines, 1 Utility Truck, 1 Helicopter, 1 Water Tender and 4 Chief Officers from Escondido, San Diego City, and the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District were able to contain the fire in approximately 20 minutes. Crews remained on scene for another hour to extinguish all hot spots. California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the full closure of Highway 78 and San Pasqual Valley Road while firefighters worked from the roadside.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
