SAN DIEGO (March 31, 2022) — Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger-relief and food rescue organization, is working together with Neighborhood Healthcare, a private, non-profit 501© (3) community health organization, to provide nutritious food to Escondido residents at no cost.
Feeding San Diego will provide fresh produce and dry goods, including pantry staples, to Neighborhood Healthcare on the first and third Saturdays of every month to be distributed from 1 to 3 PM at its location in downtown Escondido (425 N Date St. Escondido, CA 92025). Together, the two organizations are committed to providing food resources for low-income families. Neighborhood Healthcare Escondido expects to serve around 200 households at its first distribution.

“Feeding San Diego is focused on providing services in hunger hot spots around San Diego County, and Escondido falls into that category,” said Bob Kamensky, Chief Strategy Officer at Feeding San Diego. “This collaboration is part of our organization’s Healthcare Partnerships Program, which links healthcare and food assistance to better support San Diegans in need of resources.”

Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, San Diegans have continued to be impacted by both the public health crisis and the ensuing economic crisis, which has caused record-high gas prices and a soaring inflation rate. Feeding San Diego is working with its nearly 300 community partners, which include healthcare organizations, other non-profits, schools, and faith-based organizations, to continue to provide food assistance throughout San Diego County. In addition to Neighborhood Healthcare, Feeding San Diego also works with TrueCare, Family Health Centers of San Diego, La Maestra Community Health Centers, San Ysidro Health, Sharp Healthcare, Vista Community Clinic, and more to provide food assistance to San Diegans who receive healthcare from these groups.

“Neighborhood Healthcare recognizes that health is about more than just vaccines and checkups,” said Adrian Zavala, Senior Director of Marketing & Community Engagement at Neighborhood Healthcare. “That’s why this collaboration with Feeding San Diego is important to us. It will ensure we continue to help families eliminate barriers to achieving their best life, whether financial, social, or otherwise.”

Thanks to a generous grant awarded to Neighborhood Healthcare from Albertsons and Vons Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors Program, CalFresh enrollment assistance will be provided to those who attend these food distributions to ensure that they continue to have access to healthy nutritious food.
