Kathy Woods- Last Friday night on November 17th, myself and a friend attended a painting and music event at the Witch Creek Winery located at 2906 Carlsbad Boulevard in downtown Carlsbad. I have to say that this was my first time attending such an event with both painting and singing. Sergio Gutierrez specializes in Live Paintings, projection live art events, and custom paintings, and you will quickly realize that there is never a dull moment in the opportunities that Sergio pursues on a daily basis!
We have both met Sergio previously when he used to play in a band at a local Oceanside restaurant in the harbor on several Friday nights. He was fun to watch and listen to. This particular event at the Carlsbad Winery was no exception to observing his humor, his music and his talent as an artist.
We enjoyed a flight of red and white wines from Witch Creek Winery and we shared an appetizer while Sergio set up his lights and music speakers for the entire audience of friends, followers and strangers. The room quickly filled up inside and outside on the patio. We were lucky enough to be sitting front and center with no obstructions to see him paint and hear him play his guitar and sing several fun songs. We all sang along with familiar songs of the past. The location is ideal for an event such as this.
When he finished singing a few tunes, he proceeded to start on his masterpiece and make it come alive. It was fascinating to watch as he worked his magic brushes into a familiar face. He also was displaying two other art pieces which were recognized by everyone and absolutely beautiful. Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe seemed to be entranced with his music while we all listened to him play.

He then took a break and played his guitar and sang some more. We now all knew who the handsome face was that was coming alive right in front of our eyes. That face was Old Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. Sergio was kind enough to stop several times and let everyone take pictures with him and his creation. One of his friends purchased his “Marilyn” that night and took it home for himself and his wife. All of his paintings are for sale if you want one for yourself.
