Seven North County Breweries Win Medals at 2023 World Beer Cup

San Diego, Calif. – Seven North County craft breweries won medals on Wednesday at the 2023 World Beer Cup, the largest international beer competition often referred to “The Olympics of Beer Competitions”. BattleMage Brewing in Vista was the only Gold Medal winner from North County for its Summon Ifrit in the “American-Style Amber/Red Ale” category.

The other North County breweries to medal were Burgeon Beer Co. (Carlsbad), Craft Coast Beer & Tacos (Oceanside), Eppig Brewing (Vista), Mother Earth Brew Co. (Vista), My Yard Live Beer Co. (San Marcos), and Pizza Port (Carlsbad). San Diego County breweries won 12 medals overall, including three Gold, two Silver, and seven Bronze. Eppig Brewing was the only North County brewery to win multiple medals with two – a silver and a bronze.

The event took place in Nashville as part of the Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America, and it featured more than 10,000 beers from nearly 2,400 breweries spanning 51 countries. The Brewers Association, which is a not-for-profit trade association that promotes and protects American craft brewers, hosts the event.

The World Beer Cup Competition Manager selects judges from a list of internationally recognized brewers, consultants, industry suppliers, and writers. Judging is blind, with no brand knowledge of any kind provided to judges. Beer entries are judged solely on their merits.
