On April 5, 2021 at approximately 00:29 AM, a canine deputy from the Sheriff’s San Marcos Patrol Station saw a vehicle driving erratically with no head light near the intersection of Descanso Road and Rancho Santa Fe Avenue. The deputy initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to yield.

A short pursuit ensued westbound on Descanso Avenue. As the roadway curved to the right onto Alamitos Way, the driver proceeded straight, driving through a metal fence, and colliding with a tree, ultimately coming to rest in the driveway of a residence in the 500 block of Alamitos Way.

A high-risk vehicle stop was initiated. The driver exited the vehicle and was ordered to show his hands. The driver failed to comply with deputies’ commands and a canine was utilized to take the suspect into custody. The driver was identified as John Sipp (32). It was later determined the vehicle driven by Sipp had been reported stolen. Sipp was treated at Palomar Hospital for his injuries and later booked into custody for possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, violating probation, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
