The program has been in operation for 12 years providing food resources for Vista students and their families. This is the 5th year the organization has put together baskets filled with food, including turkeys, for families for the holiday season. Twenty-five to thirty volunteers will gather just outside of TJ Crossman’s Auto Repair Shop, on Melrose Avenue, on Friday, November 22nd, to put the baskets (boxes) of food together. More volunteers will gather on Saturday, November 23rd, to distribute the food to the families and some will deliver the food to the family’s homes. It is hoped that 200 or more holiday baskets will be provided this year. Anyone interested in volunteering to help or wanting to make a financial contribution can contact Vista Teen Outreach. The money raised will be used to purchase additional food from the Food Bank or Winco, including purchasing the turkeys. A special thank you goes out to Del Rey Avocado for providing the sturdy boxes that will hold the food for each family and to Frazier Farms is providing potatoes Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum for providing the freezer storage for the turkeys.
