Multiple calls from 911 came into the Vista Fire Department at 8:20 pm on Jan 28, 2022 regarding a structure fire at 320 Civic Center Drive. The front of a group home was engulfed in flames on arrival between Eucalyptus and Civic Center.
The first units were on the scene with smoke and fire on the front of the structure and within 30 minutes they were able to contain the fire by 8:50 pm. Eight people were displaced from the structure and the Red Cross is assisting them. 24 total firefighters were on scene and it looks like the cause was accidental possibly due to smoking materials. The good news is, the house had working smoking detectors and everyone was able to evacuate on their own. One individual was transported to the hospital for an unrelated medical condition. The firefighters were able to contain the fire to the front section of the home only including smoke damage. It is not destroyed or a total loss.
The first firefighting unit was on the scene in five minutes and the full first alarm assignment was on the scene in 12 minutes. It was a very impressive response from the Vista Fire Department. The fire was contained to that area and the one home only.
