Sunset Market Hosts Oceansides’ First Responders

By Don and Diane Petersen
Every Thursday night of each week, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, Downtown Oceanside comes to life. Sunset Market draws hundreds even thousands of people as they revel in music, food and shop among the many creative vendor booths. Last Thursday was even more special as Oceansides’ First Responders set up in various locations at the Sunset Market to meet and greet with the local population.

This was a golden opportunity for many to converse with Firemen, Policemen, Paramedics and Harbor Police as they admired First Responder Mobile Command Centers, Swat Trucks and Life Guard Vehicles.

There was opportunity for Officer Cobain to talk with young Joshua about the pros and cons of being a policeman, which Joshua was hoping to grow up to become. The family of Mike, Bridgette and son Storm were able to spend time with Officer Williams checking out the intricacies of the SWAT Vehicle and what it takes to be a First Responder. We saw firefighters engaging with citizens on the CPR dummies showing them how it was done, letting them practice the various techniques. There was even a presentation of CERT, giving opportunity for the public to sign up to be a local emergency responder with proper training. The night was a great time for many to see the fantastic job our First Responders do. The Oceanside Emergency Community.
