COUNTY — The county’s election is over although some races are still too close to call or heading to a runoff for the November general election.
Voter turnout in San Diego County was a meager 22%, according to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. The total turnout statewide was just 18%, according to the California Secretary of State website.
The county will process 275,000 ballots and update the results tomorrow, the ROV said. So far 425,572 ballots have been counted out of 1.9 million registered voters in the county.
The controversial Proposition 1, which would allow the state to issue $6.34 billion in bonds to address homelessness, along with giving the state a bigger share of Prop. 63 funds, is a tight race, according to the measure.
There were few surprises, although Republican Steve Garvey, who is running for the late Diane Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat, holds a four-point lead over Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff to fill the partial term. However, the race for the full term is quite different.
