(Carlsbad, CA) – San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond today announced his endorsement of Dr. Melanie Burkholder for State Assembly District 76.
Jim Desmond was elected to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in 2018, representing unincorporated North County, and the cities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, and San Marcos. Prior to his election to Supervisor, Desmond served as the Mayor of San Marcos from 2006 to 2018.
“Dr. Burkholder is an intelligent, hardworking candidate who knows how to work with people from all backgrounds to get results,” said Supervisor Desmond. “I believe that the 76th District, as well as San Diego County at large, will greatly benefit from her message of fiscal responsibility, encouraging local solutions for local challenges, and common-sense governance. I strongly support Melanie in her race for the 76th District.”
The 76th Assembly District encompasses coastal North County, including Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and the cities of Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, and Vista. The district is currently occupied by liberal Democrat Tasha Boerner Horvath, who won election in 2018. Boerner Horvath is the first Democrat to win this seat since redistricting in 2012. The District’s voter registration is nearly evenly split between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
“I am proud to have the endorsement of an experienced North County leader like Supervisor Desmond,” said Dr. Burkholder. “Jim is very knowledgeable about the challenges facing the 76th District, and I am looking forward to working with him to improve the quality of life for all North County residents.”
Dr. Melanie Burkholder is a decorated Secret Service agent, mental health counselor, and proud wife and mother. A Republican, Melanie will take the same fight to Sacramento special interests and ultra-liberal politicians that she took to our nation’s criminals while serving in the Secret Service.
