On Sunday, June 07, 1987, at approximately 2253 hours, deputies in Ramona responded to a call of shots fired at 714 B Street #D, in Ramona. Witnesses told the deputies that the Aviles family was having a birthday party at their apartment for their four-year-old daughter. During the party, one of the guests, twenty-seven-year-old Jose Angel Solorio, got into an argument with several people at the party. Solorio became upset and left the party with his family.

A short time later, Solorio came back to the apartment with a gun. He shot three males inside the apartment. They were identified as German Aviles, Ventura Aviles, and Carlos Holgin. As he was exiting the apartment, Solorio also shot Jose Aviles. Fire Department personnel transported Carlos Holgin and Jose Aviles to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries. Deputies found German and Ventura Aviles deceased inside the apartment.

Following the shooting, the suspect, Jose Angel Solorio, fled to Mexico. Homicide Detectives followed up on all leads related to this case in an attempt to locate Solorio. An arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Solorio related to the two murders and two attempted murders. The U.S. Marshals Service and FBI were contacted and asked to assist in the apprehension of Solorio. Solorio was not located.

In April of 2002, Homicide Detectives were able to locate a family member in Texas. This person said the last time she had contact with Solorio was approximately two years earlier. At that time, Solorio was reportedly still living in Mexico, but his exact location was unknown.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service continued to work on this case in an attempt to locate Solorio. In March of 2019, Solorio was located in Mexico. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service, working in conjunction with Law Enforcement personnel from Mexico, detained Solorio in Mexico. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, working with the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Mexican Law Enforcement personnel and the Mexican Consulate, extradited Solorio to the United States, based on the outstanding arrest warrant.

Today, Solorio was transported to San Diego and Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives took custody of Solorio. He was booked into the San Diego Central Jail for the arrest warrant for two counts of PC§ 187, Murder, and two counts of PC§ 664-187, Attempted Murder. He is being held without bail.
