While conducting a DUI checkpoint on November 18, Escondido Police arrested two motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, 23 drivers were cited for driving without a license, and three were cited for driving on a suspended license. The checkpoint was held at Lincoln Avenue and Fig Street from 6:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Of the total 2,052 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint 741 motorists were contacted. DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads. The Escondido Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they are traveling. The Escondido Police Department will hold another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on December 16. Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
