Homicide detectives continued their investigation and were able to identify forty-year-old Calvin Ackles as the suspect in the shooting. On March 29, 2020, Ackles was arrested in the city of San Diego and booked into San Diego Central Jail for one count of 187(a) PC – Murder.
The victim’s family has been notified of his death. The victim was identified as Francisco Cruz, a thirty-two-year-old resident of Oceanside. The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy on March 28, 2020. The cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is homicide.
Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
Information from prior release:
On March 26, 2020 at about 9:35 p.m., a security guard was on patrol in the area of 2500
S. Santa Fe Avenue in the unincorporated area of Vista. The guard located an adult male lying in a parking lot. The guard checked the welfare of the male and believed he had been
shot and was not breathing. The guard called 911 and deputies and fire department personnel responded.

Upon arrival, paramedics attempted life saving measures. Unfortunately, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation. During the initial response, deputies contacted several potential witnesses in the area and the investigation is continuing.
