Escondido Facility to Serve Young Adults Open for Tours and Training
Join Urban Corps of San Diego County on Thursday, July 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for its North County Open House at 2200 Micro Place in Escondido. During this drop-in event, guests can tour the facility, learn more about Urban Corps’ programs and sign-up to be a Corpsmember. “The Open House will give North County residents and potential Corpsmembers an opportunity to see our facility and learn first-hand about the programs that Urban Corps has to offer,” said Kyle Kennedy, CEO, Urban Corps of San Diego County. “Urban Corps has been working in North County for years, but it has not been easy to recruit since our headquarters is in San Diego. I hope that this new North County location will change that and we will be able to reach more youth who want to receive a paycheck while earning their high school diploma and learning job skills that will help the community and put them on the road to success.”
Urban Corps of San Diego County is a certified local conservation corps that provides young adults paid job training and community service. Corpsmembers learn job skills while planting trees, restoring habitats, removing graffiti, recycling, landscaping and working in construction. For Corpsmembers that need a high school diploma, they attend school one day a week at Urban Corps Charter School – an onsite WASC-accredited charter high school to earn their diploma.
With their participation, Corpsmembers receive a paycheck and additional services through the Corpsmember Development program that helps prepare them for their future including career counseling, life skills workshops, case management and one-on-one assistance with resumes, college and job applications and job placement.
“I hope anyone that wants to learn more about Urban Corps will drop by and join us on July 14,” added Kennedy. “It will be a great opportunity to see the new facility, ask questions and learn about all the benefits Urban Corps offers to the community.”
