CARLSBAD-Calif. – On January 17, 2023, at 4:45 p.m. the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the intersection of Cannon Road at the N/B I-5 off-ramp due to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist.
On arrival, officers found that a Kawasaki motorcycle had collided into a Toyota minivan. The motorcycle rider, a 67-year-old male, was ejected and injured in the roadway. The injured male was treated by fire personnel at the scene and transported to a local trauma center. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
Per witnesses, the motorcycle rider was traveling eastbound on Cannon Road and entered the intersection against a red light, colliding into the minivan that was exiting the N/B I-5 off-ramp.
The driver of the minivan, a 72-year-old female, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist is being withheld at this time pending the notification of his next of kin.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and it is not believed drugs or alcohol were a factor. The intersection of Cannon Road and the N/B I-5 off-ramp will be closed for several hours so investigators can process the scene of the collision.
