VIDEO Oceanside Mayor Candidates Sanchez and Keim Interviews 2024

Oceanside is accustomed to several candidates running for Mayor. This year there are only two candidates, Mayor Esther Sanchez and Deputy Mayor Ryan Keim. Both candidates were asked the same questions and there is no editing to the video.

Esther Sanchez
I am running for re-election for Oceanside Mayor!

With deep O’side family roots, urban planning/legal background, and over 20 years of preserving/enhancing our neighborhoods and quality of life, I am the best qualified to lead our city.

I have taken the lead on creating more parks, including El Corazon Senior Center, Aquatics Center, soccer fields and skate parks; saving Goat Hill, Oceanside Public Library, and Brooks Street Pool; building over 1,000 affordable housing units; protecting rent control for MHP seniors and veterans; expanding our economy; creating youth programs; improving public safety; protecting neighborhoods; and embracing our cultural diversity.

As Regional Leader, I won critical support for Re:Beach from Coastal cities and agencies like the Coastal Commission, where I served. We need sand on our beaches now!

I helped negotiate a compromise on short-term vacation rentals, protecting private property while preserving workforce housing.

We must implement our Climate Action Plan, address traffic and parking issues, become bicycle-friendly, and embrace agri-tourism/preserve our agricultural lands. We must shelter our unsheltered, create employment centers, address food insecurities and meet affordable/workforce housing needs.

We must take back local control!

Re-elect the only Leader with the vision, skills, experience, knowledge and passion for Oceanside’s Future!

Re-elect Esther Sanchez, the People’s Mayor!

Thank you!

Ryan Keim
A lifelong Oceanside resident, I am proud to serve the city of Oceanside as a councilmember for District 3 and Deputy Mayor. After a career as an Oceanside police officer and law enforcement executive, I was appointed to the City Council in 2019 and elected to my first full term the following year. As a leader of one of the largest cities in the county, I immediately confronted our most pressing issues- the homeless crisis, rising crime rates and our disappearing beaches while also delivering a balanced budget and ensuring our residents get the best value for their tax dollars. We still have much work to do but with the partnership of my fellow councilmembers and our incredible city staff, I am confident we will lead the region with innovative and successful solutions to these issues.
