[Vista, CA, 2024] – The Vista Education Foundation is proud to announce the awarding of nearly $18,000 in scholarships to 23 outstanding graduating seniors from eight high schools. The recipients of the scholarships attended Rancho Buena Vista High School, Vista High School, Trade Tech High School, Guajome Park Academy, Vista Visions School, Major General Raymond Murray High School, and Alta Vista High School.
The scholarships, totaling $17,750, were presented to the students during various scholarship and graduation ceremonies held from May 28th to June 5th. Of this amount, $12,500 was provided by the Vista Education Foundation (VEF) and $5,250 was contributed by the Vista Grange #609. Members of the VEF board were present to personally hand over the scholarships, recognizing the hard work and determination of the students.
Denisse Barragan, a board member who presented scholarships at Rancho Buena Vista High School and Major General Raymond Murray High School, expressed her admiration for the students, stating, “These students have worked incredibly hard, many of them overcoming significant challenges. As a board member, it is truly special to help students achieve their goals by personally handing them a scholarship that will support their education, whether they choose to pursue college or trade school.”
President Vicente Hinojosa also shared his thoughts on the Foundation’s impact, saying, “Being a part of an organization that gives back directly to our students is incredibly rewarding. Our goal is to support and inspire these young individuals as they take the next step in their educational journeys, and it’s an honor to be a part of that process.”
The Vista Education Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities and experiences for students in the Vista Unified School District. Through community support and strategic partnerships, the Foundation aims to empower students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic journey by providing financial support for scholarships, arts, technology, and internships. Their board comprises dedicated community members, esteemed business leaders, and seasoned educators, including Vicente Hinojosa, John Herrera, Susan Stuber, Terry Van Kirk, Marie Hoveln, Dr. Dave Sherman, Julie Lowen, Denisse Barragan, Tracy Zachry, Jeff Fox, and honorary members VUSD Superintendent Dr. Matt Doyle and Vista Mayor John Franklin.
The Vista Grange #609 has partnered with the VEF to fund scholarships in the areas of agriculture, animal sciences, nutrition, and food science. The Grange endowment supports academic or vocational training towards certification in these fields.
