On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, Gary Van Nevel, Grant Committee Chair and member of the Vista Elks Lodge #1968, awarded a Grant for $1500 from the Elks National Foundation, based in Chicago, to help North County Lifeline, located at 200 Michigan Ave., Vista, CA. “We receive notifications from our headquarters about grants that are available. We usually are looking for veterans, the homeless and disadvantaged youth. This particular spotlight grant came to light and I suggested that we give it to North County Lifeline which works with many youth in the community,” Gary said. “The Grant Committee approved this donation and I spoke to Shannon Stubblefield, Director of Philanthropy at Lifeline. She works with Graciela Gutierrez, one of the Youth Program Managers who knows that a lot of their families are already struggling to make ends meet and working on their path of self reliance and these times are much harder.

” Shannon said, “We provide them with gift cards for things like groceries, and this helps the families in a huge way. A little goes a long way and a lot goes a long way.”

Graciela works with the youth every day and she said, “We are very appreciative of all the help and support we are getting for our families and our youth. As Shannon said, we see our families struggling with those basic needs, not only as it relates to food but with hygiene products, and even utilities with kiddos being at home more and the SDGE bill becomes higher and higher. Thank you for this support.”
