Vista, CA – Late on March 20, 2020, the Vista Fire Department received notice that a Firefighter Paramedic has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Vista Firefighter Paramedic had recently been on duty; however was asymptomatic asymptomatic if a patient is a carrier for a disease or infection but experiences no symptoms. during that time. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), this employee presented a very low risk to any members of the public he may have interacted with at work, because he did not have active symptoms such as a fever or cough.
The Vista Firefighter is currently self-isolated at home and is resting. The Fire Department has followed all guidelines per the CDC. Vista Fire firefighters and others who were in contact with the firefighter are taking precautionary measures, isolating themselves, and are monitoring and evaluating according to procedures.
“As firefighters, we are committed to serving the public in their time of need,” said Vista Fire Chief Ned Vander Pol. “Our top priority is the health and well-being of our community. These are unprecedented times; however, we are up to the challenge. We will work to support our firefighters as they continue to serve and we will take care of those who may become ill during this pandemic.”
The public is encouraged to continue following the State’s Stay at Home order and to follow the Federal, State and County guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19. This includes social distancing while out running essential errands and following good hygiene practices, including thoroughly washing hands.
