Vista High Hosts Community Forum to Expose ‘Big Tobacco Marketing Tactics to Attract Young Users’

TOMORROW, April 21, 2022

WHAT: Vista Community Clinic with STAY (Spreading Tobacco Awareness Youth) Club of Vista High School host an interactive community forum to educate the public about the dangers of tobacco and vaping products.
WHEN: TOMORROW, April 21, 2022

3:00pm-5:00pm

WHERE: Vista High School, 1 Panther Way, Vista, CA 92084

WHY: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey which found more than 2 million US middle and high school students reported current use of vape products. To protect our kids, their health, and their future, limiting tobacco products’ sales can reduce youth availability and access to tobacco products and decrease the likelihood of health complications.

In 2021, Vista Community Clinic conducted observations at 69 tobacco retailers in Vista to document the number and location of tobacco product advertising inside and outside of stores and the types of tobacco products and accessories inside. The observations show that more than 58% of retailers were within 1,000 feet of another tobacco retailer, and 74% were near youth-centered facilities like schools, churches, and parks.
