Earlier this year, the City of Vista was challenged with contracting a fireworks vendor for the signature annual Independence Day Celebration event. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the fireworks industry when those businesses suffered cancellations in 2020. Several could not recover and have gone out of business, leaving the region with fewer qualified fireworks companies. Additionally, those who have stayed open were booked quickly and staffing shortages prevented fireworks businesses from adding shows.
Due to these impacts, on April 27, 2023, the City announced the cancellation of the 55th annual Independence Day celebration due to a shortage of fireworks companies in the region. The City recognized that the Independence Day celebration is a beloved tradition and shared the disappointment of residents who look forward to this event every year.
However, upon hearing of this unfortunate news, active community member, Scott Raitt, began calling his network to locate an available fireworks vendor. After a few calls, Scott found a company who had a last-minute cancellation for July 4, and on May 2023, he reached out to the City and connected staff with the available fireworks company.
On June 8, 2023, the City of Vista announced the resumption of its much-anticipated Independence Day Celebration and fireworks display. The community was thrilled, and Vista thoroughly enjoyed its traditional fireworks show thanks to Scott.
The Mayor and Vista City Council extend their sincere appreciation to Scott Raitt for saving Vista’s cherished Independence Day Celebration and for his dedication to the Vista Community.
