VUSD Bond Measure LL Passes Voters in the Vista Unified School District (VUSD) demonstrated their support for students by passing Measure LL, which will generate up to $247 million for school improvements, upgrades, and infrastructure.
“We cannot thank the voters enough for passing Measure LL,” said VUSD Superintendent Dr. Linda Kimble. “Every dollar of the funds will be used to improve the learning experience for our students.”
Measure LL will provide funding for:
Replacement of portable classrooms with permanent student learning spaces Improvements to school security infrastructure Classrooms and labs for career and technology education classes Facilities to support math, science and technology Upgrading of classrooms, libraries, and science labs Repairs or replacement of deteriorating roofs, plumbing, sewer lines, and electrical systems Creation of flexible, multi-use classrooms to support hands-on science instruction Improvements to heating, ventilation, insulation, doors and windows to increase energy efficiency and save money On May 31, the Vista Unified School District Board of Trustees voted to place Measure LL on the November 2018 ballot. The measure passed by more than 62% of voters. In order to pass, the measure needed 55% of voters.
“The passing of Measure LL was a monumental effort,” said Kimble. “Thank you to everyone who served on the committee, waved a sign, endorsed the measure, phone banked, volunteered, or voted.”
Once the election results are certified by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters and approved by the VUSD Board of Trustees, the district will begin the process of assembling an independent citizen oversight committee as well as planning for projects. The bond measure will cost property owners about 3 cents for each $100 of assessed value of their property, or about $108 per year for the typical home owner.
