On March 22, the City of San Marcos and its partners celebrated the grand opening of the renovated equestrian center at Walnut Grove Park, located at 1950 Sycamore Drive in San Marcos. The ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted improvements to the equestrian park, including a new judges booth and updated arena and practice area fencing.

Since opening in 2006, the city has partnered with the Twin Oaks Valley Equestrian Association (TOVEA) on maintenance and upgrades to the 20-acre park. As the only public equestrian center in San Diego County, Walnut Grove Park equestrian center is a respected and recognized destination by equestrian enthusiasts throughout the region. TOVEA has played an essential role in the facility’s almost 20-year history, contributing $8,950 for recent renovations and $100,000 over the course of the life of the park for maintenance and upgrades. The City of San Marcos is thankful to TOVEA, as well as the Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and The Horse Heritage Conservancy, for their continued partnership and support.

The Walnut Grove Park equestrian center is home to several annual events, and the community is encouraged to join TOVEA at its upcoming event, ‘Common Ground.’ Visit the equestrian center from 10 am.-3 p.m. Sunday, May 15 for a free community event that will offer family fun activities and an opportunity to view the renovated facilities. Additional events are typically hosted in the spring and fall.

The equestrian center can be reserved by contacting the San Marcos Parks & Recreation Department by phone at (760) 744-9000 or by emailing parksandrec@san-marcos.net. When the center is not reserved, the public is welcome to use it at their leisure.
