Reports of a stabbing in Vista that ended in a wrong-way crash in San Marcos is under investigation.
It happened on Saturday, July 27 just before 11:30 p.m. Deputies with the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a fight and a possible stabbing in the area of East Orange Street and The Circle in Vista.
When deputies arrived on scene, they saw a Honda Accord speeding out of the area. Deputies tried to pull over the driver for a traffic stop by activating their emergency lights. The driver refused and led deputies on a pursuit.
The driver blew through several stop lights during the pursuit. Upon reaching Sycamore Avenue, the driver entered SR-78 going the wrong way. Deputies immediately stopped the pursuit for safety reasons and informed the California Highway Patrol (CHP) about the car going westbound on the eastbound lanes of Highway 78.
Ten minutes later, 9-1-1 calls came in about a traffic collision on SR-78 near Rancho Santa Fe in San Marcos. Witnesses reported the driver crawling out of the car and jumping into a ditch near Smilax Road.
Deputies with the Vista and San Marcos Sheriff’s Stations arrived on scene and confirmed the car involved in this crash was the same one that failed to yield during a traffic stop in Vista. A Sheriff’s K-9 Handler responded to the scene and started making announcements. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to Palomar Medical Center to be treated for his leg injury.
The initial report about a fight and stabbing in Vista was unfounded.
No other cars were involved in the crash. Since the collision happened on SR-78, the California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

Choque en sentido contrario – San Marcos
El informe de apuñalamiento termina en accidente.
Los informes de un apuñalamiento en Vista que terminó en un accidente en sentido contrario en San Marcos están bajo investigación.
Ocurrió el sábado 27 de julio poco antes de las 11:30 p.m. Los oficiales de la estación del alguacil de Vista respondieron a informes de una pelea y un posible apuñalamiento en el área de East Orange Street y The Circle en Vista.
Cuando los oficiales llegaron a la escena, vieron un Honda Accord saliendo a toda velocidad del área. Los agentes intentaron detener al conductor para una parada de tráfico activando sus luces de emergencia. El conductor se negó y llevó a los agentes a una persecución.
El conductor se saltó varios semáforos durante la persecución. Al llegar a Sycamore Avenue, el conductor ingresó a la SR-78 yendo en sentido contrario. Los oficiales detuvieron inmediatamente la persecución por razones de seguridad e informaron a la Patrulla de Caminos de California (CHP) sobre el automóvil que se dirigía hacia el oeste en los carriles hacia el este de la autopista 78.
Diez minutos después, se recibieron llamadas al 9-1-1 sobre una colisión de tráfico en la SR-78 cerca de Rancho Santa Fe en San Marcos. Los testigos informaron que el conductor se arrastró fuera del automóvil y saltó a una zanja cerca de Smilax Road.
Los oficiales de las estaciones del alguacil de Vista y San Marcos llegaron a la escena y confirmaron que el automóvil involucrado en este accidente era el mismo que no cedió el paso durante una parada de tráfico en Vista. Un controlador K-9 del alguacil respondió a la escena y comenzó a hacer anuncios. El conductor fue detenido sin incidentes y transportado al Centro Médico Palomar para ser tratado por su lesión en la pierna.
El informe inicial sobre una pelea y apuñalamiento en Vista era infundado.
Ningún otro automóvil estuvo involucrado en el accidente. Dado que ocurrió la colisión en la SR-78, la Patrulla de Caminos de California está a cargo de la investigación.
