Last night at approximately 11:08 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of a major injury collision westbound SR – 76, just east of Loretta Street. A BMW sedan driven by Dejuan Jones, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident, lost control of his vehicle and rolled over.
His passenger was a 22-year-old male Oceanside resident, who was ejected from the vehicle and suffered major injuries, including head trauma. The passenger was transported to a nearby hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld, pending next of kin notification.
Jones was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was taken into custody and booked into the Vista Detention Facility, facing charges of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter and other DUI related charges.
