CHICO, Calif. – Thirty-nine Cal State San Marcos student-athletes were named to the 2019-20 CCAA Spring All-Academic Team on Thursday morning.
The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per season – fall, winter and spring – for all CCAA sponsored sports. In order to earn CCAA All-Academic Team honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing or higher, and own a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport in that season. The CCAA Spring All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men’s and women’s golf, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s track & field.
Women’s track & field led all of CSUSM’s spring teams with 10 Cougars making the cut. Men’s track & field and softball tied for the second-most honors with eight apiece.
Of the 39 Cougars to earn the honor, 21 were repeat winners. Melody Forstie, Jaime Jacob, Emily Lichty, Joshua Litwiller, Savannah Magallon, Antonio Riggins, Kylene Shuler and Griffin Teisher each earned the award for the third time.
In the conference, a total of 448 men and women from across the CCAA’s 13 member institutions were honored for their efforts in the classroom.
The CCAA’s seasonal academic awards were created prior to the 2014-15 season. The conference will also select an overall All-Academic team later in the summer.
