Members of the American Legion Alvin Myo Dunn Post 365 Riders (ALR365) will be hosting their seventh annual “Daryl Malone Memorial Poker Run” on Saturday April 24, 2021. The event is open to the public and the public is welcome to participate. You do not have to be a motorcycle rider to participate, there will be raffle baskets, good food, and a band for entertainment. 100% of the proceeds from this event will be going to support Military and Veteran causes. The American Legion is a Tax-Exempt Veterans Service Organization under Internal Revenue Code 501 C (19).

This year’s Poker Run will be in honor of Robert “Grumpa” Murray. Robert was a Vietnam Veteran who served with the US Navy Utility Squadron One from 1961-1965. Grumpa was a Charter member to ALR365 and very active in the post as well as several charities and fund-raising events. Grumpa passed away on June 16th, 2019 while battling health issues related to his military service. A portion of the proceeds from the Poker Run will go to Post 365 for their Raise The Flag Community Support Program in his memory.

The purpose of the Poker Run is to bring awareness to Veteran causes, promote camaraderie, to be ambassadors to our community and ultimately to raise funds for various Veteran and Military causes

. Throughout the years ALR365 has provided financial support for such organizations as the North County Veteran’s Stand Down, Hearts to Feed 100 Military Food Drive and Shelter to Soldiers. This year the goal is to raise $8000 in support of K9 Guardians (https://www.k9guardians.org/) to help fund a service dog for a Post 9/11 Veteran suffering from either Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Military Sexual Trauma (MST). A little-known fact: it is estimated that 1 in 4 female veterans and 1 in 100 male veterans in the VA healthcare system report experiencing MST.
