49th Congressional District Candidate Forum Video

California’s 49th Congressional District is a district in the State of California. This district, since 2003, has been represented by Republican Darrell Issa. Congressman Issa has announced that he will not seek re-election. This district is considered to be a major battleground that could determine control of the United States House of Representatives.

The district covers the northern coastal areas of San Diego County, the cities include Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, and Encinitas, as well as a small portion of Southern Orange County. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is also in this district.

Last Friday evening, March 9, 2018, at the Vista Civic Center, eight candidates campaigning to fill the seat, vacated by Darrell Issa, participated in a forum to express their views to the public. Over 400 North County residents attended.

The forum was co-hosted by the Vista Chamber of Commerce, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, the San Diego North Economic Development Council and the League of Women Voters. All ten Democrat and Republican and independent candidates were invited to attend.

I want to restore the people’s confidence in their congressional representative. Congress is broken! President Trump’s promise to “Drain the Swamp” strongly resonated with many Americans in the prior election, including myself. We need to rid Congress of career politicians and the excessive influence and control exercised by special interests. The 49th District needs a representative that is smart, energetic …

I’m running for Congress because I’ve seen firsthand the need to reform the way government works and more important, the way it thinks. I never thought I would run for elected office, but this moment is too important to sit on the sidelines – we need new leaders to step up and serve. That’s why I’m running, and that’s why I’m asking for your support.

We must create jobs for the future in growing industries like clean energy and advanced technology. We must ensure that our schools provide the foundation to succeed in a new economy. We must protect the quality of our air and water, while continuing to reduce emissions. We must treat each other with equality and respect. And we must demand ethical and transparent leadership from a government that is accountable to all of us, not just the elite.

We know the division of parties and politicians has become a profitable business being instigated by opinionated TV and radio personalities. More and more it seems people are taking sides. Enough already. We already have unity in our primary goals; we need some sense of reasonable decorum as we strive to achieve them. Let’s all sit down and get to work on what ails us. We are far and away the most successful, admired, and giving country in the world, and that’s a pretty good starting point…

Many politicians running for office in the US today hold a position based on what is politically convenient at the time. I do not. As a Libertarian, I hold to a specific political, social, and economic ideology. You will know what I believe at the beginning, middle, and end of any political career you may entrust me with.

Jordan Mills believes the 16 years of Darrell Issa in Congress is more than enough. The working people of the 49th district need a change from oligarchs and austerity. Vote Jordan in 2018!
