Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club of Sunrise Vista is dedicated to serving the local community through various service and fundraising projects. The club has been in service to the community for more than 43 years. They are part of Kiwanis International, an organization serving children for over 100 years.
Earl “Tommy” Thomson of the Kiwanis Club of Sunrise Vista, recently was awarded recognition by Kiwanis International of his 55 years of perfect attendance in Kiwanis and his service to the community. Tommy has served in many leadership roles over the years, including Club President and Lieutenant-Governor for Division 37 of the Cal-Nev-Ha District.
Tommy is a longtime resident of Vista and previously worked in the insurance industry. He and his loving wife Margie, until her passing, were avid worldwide travelers and scuba divers. Tommy joined Kiwanis on Feb. 15, 1965, so his 55 years of perfect attendance is from Day One. At his current age of 93, it is just too hard to get up at 6 am – even for one day a week. So he is now a Senior member and only has to attend 12 meetings a year and his club has an evening meeting once a month.
He has been in Vista since September 1962. His primary athletic events were watching his five children compete in sports at Vista High School, coaching track at Mira Costa College and Vista High School and Scuba Diving with his wife in different parts of the World. He also was very active for many years with United Methodist Church of Vista.
