FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
On October 9, Fire crews participated in training provided by and at the Sempra Powerplant in San Diego. The walk through of the facility highlighted the major components and site safety of the local powerplant. This type of training is invaluable to our department and gives us an upper edge when using firefighting tools and techniques.
On October 11, Our Escondido City Council approved the transition for Escondido Fire to move to North Comm for Fire and EMS dispatch. This new move to a dispatch center designed specifically for EMS and Fire, along with joining nearly all of our neighboring Fire Agencies, will increase the service capability and safety for our citizens. Many of us at Escondido Fire have spent our entire careers with our Escondido Dispatchers being the “steady voice” on the other side of the radio. Thank You to all our Dispatchers who have, and continue to, “Hold the Line” for the great community we serve.
On October 13, Fire crews were dispatched to Country Club Lane under NB-I15 for a vehicle accident. The vehicle had veered off the freeway, landed on the embankment and caught fire. When crews arrived on scene, they discovered a fully engulfed vehicle fire with a victim inside. Crews were able to extinguish vehicle, along with nearby brush but unfortunately the victim sustained fatal injuries. California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
On October 14, Fire crews were dispatched to SB-I15, north of El Norte, for a car fire. Crews arrived on scene to discover a fully engulfed sedan in the slow lane. Crews quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries were sustained.
Also, on October 14, Fire Station 1 crews were invited and participated in a community event at Lowes. Crews assisted children and their families with making toy fire engines and answered questions about their jobs. Community events like this are an important part of showing our residents what we do and who we are, so we were thankful for the invite.
