Four schools within OUSD have achieved the 2024 California Purple Star designation: Oceanside High School, North Terrace, Stuart Mesa, and Santa Margarita. Now in its third year, this program acknowledges schools that excel in supporting military-connected students and their families. Military-connected students face numerous transitions, changing schools between six and nine times from kindergarten through high school, significantly more than non-military-connected children. As they navigate these transitions, often across states and countries, they encounter diverse cultures, populations, curricula, and graduation requirements. The Purple Star Program aims to address these challenges by establishing criteria for and publicly recognizing military-friendly schools
