In Just Four Months, Supporters of TERI’s Mission Help Meet Goal
SAN MARCOS, Calif. (March 24, 2026) — TERI, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with special needs and their families, has unlocked the first $1 million of a $3 million challenge grant from the Tom and Mary Tomlinson Foundation, marking a major milestone in the effort to complete the TERI Campus of Life.
The grant is structured as a 2:1 challenge, with the Tomlinson Foundation contributing $1 for every $2 raised by TERI supporters. In just four months, donor support has helped meet the first $1 million of the grant, accelerating the final phase of construction of the Campus of Life.
Since launching the capital campaign in May 2025, TERI has raised more than $6.5 million toward its $15 million goal. Reaching this benchmark positions the organization to pair philanthropic support with a $15 million tax-exempt bond and break ground on building the second half of the campus.
This early achievement was made possible through the generous commitments of The Walter J. & Betty C. Zable Foundation, The Stephen & Mary Birch Foundation, Cox Communications, and several individual philanthropic leaders in San Diego.
“This milestone reflects the generosity and belief of our supporters and the San Diego community,” said Cheryl Kilmer, Founder and CEO of TERI Campus of Life.
“Together, we are building a place where individuals of all abilities can learn, grow, and thrive.”
By completing the campus, all TERI students, program participants, staff, and families will be united in an inclusive, purpose-driven environment. The completed campus adds several buildings, including a Center of Innovation; the Bornemann Child Development Center; the Learning Academy; a Technology Center; the Dr. Bronner’s Country Day School; a Sports, Fitness & Aquatics Complex, the Scott P. L. Gardner Sensory Garden, and the Merriam House Museum.
The TERI Campus of Life also welcomes the broader public through TERI’s social enterprises —a café, theater, venue rentals, and more. To learn more about TERI Campus of Life or to support the campaign, visit tericampusoflife.org.
