The City of San Marcos celebrated the completion of improvements at Richmar Park today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by City Council members, city staff, and families participating in the city’s summer camp program.
The project introduced several new amenities, including the largest playground shade structure in the city, a new mini soccer arena area and accessibility improvements designed to improve access and make the park more welcoming and enjoyable for residents of all ages.
The improvements were funded with approximately $1.2 million in federal Community Development Block Grant funds provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allowing the city to leverage federal investment to improve neighborhood infrastructure while preserving local resources for additional community priorities.

The new shade structure provides expanded sun protection for children and families using the playground, helping make the park more comfortable during warm weather. The mini soccer arena area creates a dedicated space for recreation and play, while the accessibility improvements help ensure the park is welcoming to all visitors.
Richmar Park, located at 110 Richmar Ave., has long served as a neighborhood gathering place. These improvements reflect the city’s ongoing commitment to investing in parks and public spaces that strengthen the community and improve quality of life for residents.
