CARLSBAD, Calif. — On Sept. 3, 2026, at approximately 11:26 a.m., the Carlsbad Police Department responded to Carlsbad High School after receiving a report of a phoned-in threat involving the campus. The threat included claims involving a firearm and explosive devices on campus.
Carlsbad Police take all threats seriously, regardless of how they are received. In collaboration with school officials, Carlsbad High School was placed on a precautionary lockdown while officers investigated the report.
Carlsbad Police Officers, along with law enforcement partners from neighboring agencies, responded to the school and conducted a thorough, methodical search of the campus. The lockdown remained in place during the search to allow officers to carefully check and clear each area of the school.
We understand the extended lockdown was difficult for students, staff and families. These precautions were necessary to ensure the campus could be safely cleared, and we appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation throughout the response.
Officers found no indication of a physical threat on campus. The phoned-in threat appears to be unsubstantiated, and detectives are continuing to investigate the origin of the call.
