On Thursday, September 3, around 7:00 a.m., deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station served two search warrants as part of an extensive investigation into large-scale fraud, forgery, and burglary.
The operation focused on individuals believed to be involved in orchestrating and facilitating criminal activity and represents a significant step forward in the ongoing effort to protect San Marcos residents from financial and property-related crimes.
Katie Rhew (DOB: 10/30/1981) and Michael Sundstrom (DOB: 02/25/1980) were taken into custody after search warrants were served at their homes in Temecula (in Riverside County) and San Marcos. Sheriff’s Investigators also recovered hundreds of items associated with the production of forged documents, stolen credit cards and passports. They also found fraudulently obtained property linked to numerous victims across San Diego, Riverside and Orange Counties, as well as from the state of Arizona.
Rhew was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of identity theft, possession of personal identifying information of more than 10 victims, forgery, burglary, possession of methamphetamine, committing a felony while on bail, and criminal conspiracy.
Sundstrom was booked into Vista Detention Facility on charges of identity theft, mail theft, possession of stolen property, and criminal conspiracy.
