NORTH COUNTY — The nation’s fuel crisis is exploding as the war in Iran has taken a dramatic turn over the past week.

And San Diego drivers are paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation because of the global oil shocks colliding with the state’s expensive fuel system.

Prices are at or near record highs across the country, and one gas station in Serra Mesa was selling diesel fuel for $9.99 per gallon, according to reports. AAA reports the average price for a gallon of gasoline in San Diego County is $6.08, and diesel is $8.02.

The average price for gas in California is $6.01 per gallon as of Tuesday, and $8.21 for diesel. The state has the highest average price per gallon in the country for gas and diesel.

Gasoline and diesel in California are nearly 50 cents higher than second-place Washington, which is at $5.57 and $7.27, respectively.
