October 2026, Vista, CA – The Vista Unified School District is opening wide the doors (and gates) to its newest school campus, Bobier Elementary, for a ribbon-cutting event and community open house on Saturday, October 24th from 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Dubbed the “Campus of the Future,” Bobier’s campus is a $100 million facility that has won design awards and earned community kudos. The “all-electric” campus is equipped with solar arrays that generate approximately 90% of its own energy, making the campus financially efficient and sustainable. The school’s state-of-the-art modern classrooms, facilities, and recreation spaces are designed for future flexibility and accessibility.
Several hundred people are expected at the event, which will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the campus. Speakers for the event include VUSD Superintendent Dr. Matt Doyle, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Shawn Loescher, Students, and members of the VUSD Board of Trustees.
“Every student deserves a world-class facility like Bobier,” says Vista USD Superintendent Dr. Matt Doyle. “This new campus provides a tangible example of how community investment in school facilities can transform an aging campus into a modern learning environment designed to serve students and the surrounding community for generations.”
Gates to the campus will open at 11:30 AM, allowing attendees to tour the campus and its facilities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 1:00 PM, and the campus will remain open for several more hours to accommodate community members. Food and beverages will be provided by the district’s acclaimed Child Nutrition Services department.
Parking for the public is available at Vista High School, and shuttle buses will run every ten minutes to accommodate the expected crowds.
Building The Campus Of The Future
The project tore down the 50+-year-old structure and rebuilt a campus custom-designed for the school and community, and it has been North County’s largest public construction project. Bobier is the pinnacle of the district’s recent facility improvement and bond initiatives, which saw projects at all VUSD schools.
For 3rd grader Sarahi, who has seen the school, starting the new school year in this space is an exciting and welcome prospect. “The school looks great, and it’s huge too!! I love how it looks awesome!!! That’s why I love this school!!!”
Araceli, a parent of a Bobier student, echoes the excitement. “I am impressed with the new school… It is a beautiful place. It has a lot of space for the kids. The kids are going to have a big area to play, and I love that the rooms have AC. Also, I like the parking lot.”
Award-Winning Design
The campus, designed by Ruhnau Architects, is the recipient of the Learning By Design Educational Facilities Design Awards, a national program that recognizes and celebrates excellence and innovation in architecture and design in new learning environments for pre-K through 12th grade and higher education.
The award spotlight said, “Each step of the design process has been laden with intentionality in efforts to provide for an underserved area, improve the lives of students, faculty, and the community, and weave the importance of every member at every level into the foundations of this school.”
“With 32 dedicated classrooms, over 84,000 square feet of internal space, and nearly 10,000 square feet of interior courtyard-covered space, the new Bobier Elementary School exemplifies why Vista Unified School District is nationally recognized for excellence and innovation in education,” says Assistant Superintendent Dr. Shawn Loescher.
“This learning environment sets our new standards for the types of spaces that our students, teachers, staff, and community deserve. The opening of Bobier ES exemplifies what is possible for our community and inspires hope to a future that our community and each student are most worthy of.”
Construction began at the end of the 2023-24 school year and was completed according to schedule – a rare and welcome feat. Measure LL, a $247 million bond passed in 2018, has been cited as a model for transparency across California, receiving an A+ transparency rating from the San Diego County Taxpayers Association for two consecutive years.
