OCEANSIDE, CA (Sunday, October 18, 2026) – The Oceanside Shock came roaring out of the gates Sunday night at Frontwave Arena against the Stockton Thunder, posting their highest-scoring period in young franchise history by potting three goals in the opening period. Unfortunately for Oceanside, the Thunder matched the Shock’s output in the opening frame and then added three more as the game wore on, pulling away for a 6-3 victory in front of a crowd of 2,378.
Despite playing their second game in two days with an eight-hour bus ride in between, the Shock and Thunder (2-0-1, 5 points) decided collectively to hit the accelerator in a first period which saw six goals, three per side. After seven scoreless minutes, bad fortune befell the Shock (1-4-0, 2 points) when defender Bryan Gowin saw his stick snap at the blade as he attempted to clear the puck out of the defensive corner. As the stick blade whip-sawed away, Payton Jones of Stockton reached in to grab the puck that was left standing there, and flipped it into the middle, where Bowie Slarks knocked it home from close range for his first goal of the season at 7:08.
The Shock answered right back, taking advantage of a steal at center ice, with James Spaargaren sending in Sam Bailey with Matt O’Dea two-on-two. Bailey dragged to the left before dropping his pass back for O’Dea, who wristed a pure shot under the crossbar and into the back corner of the net at 7:45 to equalize 1-1. Stockton responded with two solid minutes of heavy pressure in the low slot of the Shock zone, leading to a Tyler Maxwell tripping penalty. The Thunder capitalized with a power-play goal, netted by Christopher Mott at 10:41 for a 2-1 Stockton lead.
The offense was far from stopping as the first period raged onward. Oceanside’s Sean Reynolds jumped on a loose puck drifting into the Stockton zone, sped past the unaware defender and roofed a shot past Thunder goaltender Elijah Gibbons for a 2-2 tie. Back came Stockton, with Ilnur Madiarov deflecting a point shot from Gehig Lindberg for a 3-2 Thunder lead at 16:04. Less than a minute later, Matt O’Dea sent in Chris Wracker racing on right wing, and he blasted a shot over Gibbons’ glove at 17:00 to tie the score 3-3.
The second period was a different story, as Stockton weathered a persistent Oceanside attack while being opportunistic when the time arose to strike. Damon Furuseth was the star of the period with a goal and assist for Stockton, scoring at 9:19 and setting up Nolan Mix’s goal at 10:45. The Shock levied 22 shots on goal but could not best Gibbons, who won his FPHL debut with a 37-save performance. Petr Panacek added a Stockton power-play goal in the third period to settle the final scoring.
The Shock will look to regroup before playing two home games next weekend, hosting the Minnesota Northern Lights for action on Friday and Sunday nights at Frontwave Arena. Friday’s game is set for a 7:35pm faceoff, with the Sunday game facing off at 5:00pm. Tickets for either or both games are available by visiting frontwavearena.com.
