SAN DIEGO, Calif. – More than 1,300 riders took to San Diego’s coastline for the annual Bike the Coast event on October 24. Participants of all ages and experience levels took part in the leisurely ride, choosing from five distance options including the 7 and 15-mile Family Rides, and 25, 50 and 100-mile routes highlighting multiple beach communities.
This event welcomed cyclists from all over the nation while benefitting a great cause. With each turning pedal, participants supported The National MS Society. The society serves to fund cutting edge research for a cure, drive change through advocacy and provide multiple programs and services aimed to benefit people affected by MS. The event partnered with the organization just over three years ago and has since raised tens of thousands for the cause. This year marks the second straight year that the event has raised over $10,000 for Bike MS.
“This event is truly an iconic ride that showcases beautiful North County San Diego with an incredibly supportive community,”
said Mike Bone, President and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, which produces Bike the Coast San Diego. “Every year I look forward to working with the local organizations to put on an event that provides the opportunity for others to see such a beautiful coast and raise money for a great cause.”
Riders on the 25, 50 and 100-mile routes journeyed through several historic beach towns, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar, taking in the coastal charm along the routes. Those on the 7 and 15-mile courses rode the San Luis Rey River Trail, a relaxed route that provided views of the area’s natural beauty.
Each year, Bike the Coast hosts a Finish Festival for not only participants to enjoy post-ride, but also family, friends and any other community members looking for a fun local event to enjoy. The annual festival takes place at the Oceanside Pier, with an emphasis on community vendors. This year’s Finish Festival will feature local food and drinks from 7 Siblings, Oceanside Acai Republic, Coastal Squeeze, Craft Coast Tacos, Rush Coffee and Spinning Meats.
This June, Bike the Coast Ventura hosted its inaugural event, welcoming riders to the famous beach city. The event offers cyclists a new way to experience the beauty of California’s Central Coast. Bike the Coast Ventura will return next June, inviting riders of all ages and experience levels to enjoy the remarkable views, scenic routes and the community of Ventura.
