CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team recorded a 69-57 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory at Chico State on Saturday night in Acker Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars held a 14-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of play against Chico State.
•A layup by Shay Stark with four seconds remaining in the second quarter gave Chico State a 31-30 lead at halftime.
•CSUSM opened the second half with a 10-2 run to take a 40-33 lead with 4:56 remaining in the third quarter.
•Hackson scored eight of her 18 points in the third quarter to give the Cougars a 48-44 lead into the final 10 minutes.
•CSUSM outscored the Wildcats 21-13 in the final quarter, shooting 57.1% (4-of-7) from the field and going 12-of-15 (80%) at the charity stripe to clinch the win.
•The Cougars took their largest lead of the game at 65-51 with 2:02 on the clock in the fourth quarter on a Buckner layup.

FAST BREAKS •CSUSM (18-4) matched the program’s single-season record of 18 victories set in 2018-19 and 2011-12.
•The Cougars remain in second in the CCAA standings, one game behind leader UC San Diego. CSUSM now has a two-game cushion on Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State East Bay who are tied for third.
•The Wildcats (11-10, 7-8 CCAA) are fighting for a postseason berth to the CCAA Championships and are in the eighth spot in the conference standings, a half-game ahead of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
•Forel recorded her ninth double-double of the season and her eighth in the last 10 games.
•With the win, CSUSM takes a 5-4 lead in the all-time series against the Wildcats and are now 3-2 when playing in Chico.
•The Cougars outrebounded Chico State 40-33.
•The Wildcats scored 19 of their points on CSUSM’s 21 turnovers.
•Chico State committed 24 fouls, allowing the Cougars to collect 19 points on 24 attempts at the free throw line.
•CSUSM led for 35:57 of the game, never trailing the entire second half, while the Wildcats were only on top for 2:02.
