By: Barb Miltenberger

Theatre lovers and actors alike have been experiencing painful withdrawals this last year and a half. With COVID-19 in full-swing, local theatre houses were forced to reluctantly shutter their doors. Fast forward to summer 2021, and live theatre is making a comeback. North County is READY and eagerly snatching up tickets! One of the most beloved San Diego County theatre companies is Moonlight Stage Productions which operates from the beautiful open-air stage of Moonlight Amphitheatre, located in Brengle Terrace Park in Vista. Their 2021 season kicks off with the Tony Award winning, G-rated, “Once on This Island,” a musical retelling of the story of The Little Mermaid. Through song and dance, it shares a young woman’s search for true love and finding the one that truly captures your heart. It shares themes of community, perseverance as well as finding one’s purpose and joy. The musical score is upbeat and full of Caribbean influence. Don’t be surprised to find yourself tapping your feet to the beat! The colorful costumes and energy on stage are electrifying.
The show runs June 16th through July 3rd. Gates open at 6:30PM for picnicking and dining and the curtains rise at 8PM. Performances are Wednesday through Sunday nights the first two weeks and Wednesday through Saturday night the third week. Tickets are available in all price ranges, beginning at $8 for lawn tickets and moving upwards for the choice orchestra seats. Food is available at concession stands or you may bring your own in, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Beer and wine are available to purchase inside the gates. Please leave yours at home. For more information about the venue or shows, visit www.moonlightstage.com. Hope to see you there!
