SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team (33-3, 24-2 CCAA) accomplished another first on Tuesday by breaking into the top five of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 Poll as the Cougars came in at No. 4.
CSUSM kept up its winning ways this past Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader against then-No. 2 Concordia University Irvine (38-5, 24-0 PacWest) by scores of 5-4 and 4-2 in Irvine.
CSUSM is the lone ranked team from the CCAA with Chico State (30-11, 20-8 CCA) receiving votes in this week’s poll.
Having already clinched a spot in the CCAA Tournament for the very first time, the No. 4 Cougars currently have a six-game lead in the conference standings over Chico with 12 games to go.
CSUSM will conclude its six-game road trip this weekend as it travels to fourth-place Cal State Dominguez Hills (30-14, 18-10 CCAA) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
