On May 23, Officers responded to a domestic violence call. The reporting party and victim stated that her fiancé choked her and then fled into the parking lot of the complex. She advised that her fiancé was on parole and drove a Harley Davidson motorcycle. When officers arrived on scene, officers observed a Harley Davidson motorcycle leaving the area. One officer in the area tried to initiate a traffic stop however the motorcycle fled at a very high rate of speed. Officers caught up with the suspect who had lost control of his motorcycle and crashed onto the sidewalk and into a fence and a pole. The suspect was killed in the collision.

Stolen Merchandise
Also, on May 23, Loss Prevention from JC Penny called Escondido Police Dispatch to report that they observed one of their chronic thieves exit his vehicle and enter the store where he was actively concealing merchandise. The license plate provided to Dispatch was determined to be a lost/stolen plate. EPD detectives arrived to the location and confirmed that the vehicle was stolen. The suspect was confronted outside and detectives found numerous items of stolen property in his vehicle. Detectives were able to reunite victims with their stolen goods which were reported from a prior vehicle burglary in Oceanside. Especially great work by EPD detectives!
Escondido Police Department’s Forensic Services Unit
On May 24, the Escondido Police Department’s Forensic Services Unit hosted 12 students from Olive Adventures Homeschool. The students participated in a hands-on learning experience where they learned about the chemical reactions of fingerprint development and blood enhancing techniques. The Forensic Unit Specialists also taught students how to apply math and science to bloodstain pattern analysis to determine the angle of impact when a bloodstain hits the surface. The final activity included students receiving a crime scene scenario followed by the task of identifying the position of the victim using prepared bloodstains on a wall and calculating the angles to determine where the victim was struck. Thanks to the Forensics Unit for spending time with these students and for sharing how math and science can be applied to real-world situations!
