ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The 2023-24 CCAA Champion Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team (21-6, 18-4 CCAA) closed out the regular season with a 58-46 victory at Sonoma State (16-13, 11-11 CCAA) on Thursday night at The Wolves’ Den.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing early at 11-2, a last-second 3-pointer by Gallegos gave CSUSM a 17-15 following the opening quarter.
SSU opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 20-17 lead.
Vasquez’s first bucket of the game put CSUSM back on top at 21-20, continuing a 17-0 run to close out the second quarter with a 34-20 lead.
The Cougars shot 48.1% (13-of-27) in the first half while holding the Seawolves to just 25.9% (7-of-27).
CSUSM went an impressive 6-of-8 (75%) from behind the arc and SSU went 1-of-8 (12.5%) in the first 20 minutes.
The Cougars held a 43-32 lead following the third quarter.
CSUSM took its largest lead of the game on Malia Mastora’s 3-pointer at 6:17 that made it 51-34 in the fourth quarter.
FAST BREAK
This marks the Cougars seventh season series sweep of 2023-24 with their 66-63 victory on New Year’s Eve in The Sports Center.
For the game, CSUSM shot 36.5% (19-of-52) to SSU’s 34.0% (18-of-53).
The Cougars won the battle of the boards, 37-30.
Both teams tallied 16 assists in the contest.
CSUSM finished with a season-best 10 blocked shots, tying for the fourth most in a single game in program history.
Vasquez collected her 18th double-double of the season (10 pts, 13 reb.) and the 44th of her collegiate career.

As the top seed in the CCAA Tournament, the Cougars will get a bye into the semifinals and will play the winner of Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8 at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino.
