The Vista Fire Department is comprised of 94 professional and dedicated individuals who work together to provide safety and service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Vista. Our core values of wellness, integrity, professionalism, unity, leadership, and performance excellence guide our decision making and the Fire Department’s mission statement ensures our commitment to the community.
Despite the unique challenges of 2020, all of the members of the Vista Fire Department rose to the occasion and continued to provide exceptional service to the public. The pandemic impacted every aspect of the job, from how incidents were dispatched, to how fire inspectors performed their fire and life safety inspections. As the pandemic developed and the information changed, the fire department remained consistent in the delivery of service, despite the new challenges.
The fire department focused efforts on the delivery of service to the public and creating a safe and healthy work environment for all members. This effort changed the usual social dynamics of the fire department and resulted in fewer multi-company and multi-personnel drills, as well as changing the customary group meals. These changes also impacted staff who worked from home for a period, and fire prevention personnel who were not able to meet in their normal ways.
As our 2020-2025 strategic plan states, we are committed to serving our community with pride in professionalism. It is an honor to be leading an organization of professionals who are committed to serving our community.

In Safety
Ned Vander Pol, Fire Chief
