The Oceanside Public Library will hold a poetry and spoken word open mic on Friday, April 29, 2022, for National Poetry Month. This event will be from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Oceanside Public Library Community Rooms, 330 N. Coast Hwy. Local educator, singer-songwriter, poet, and advocate of the arts and culture, Kizzy Satchell, will host the event via her organization, Kizzy Presents. Participants will hear recited poetry and be invited to read original poetry and/or poems by notable poets such as Maya Angelou.
Launched by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month reminds us that poets play an integral role in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, National Poetry Month has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and—of course—poets, marking poetry’s important place in our lives.
The event is open to the public and no RSVP is required. Support for this program is provided by The Friends of Oceanside Public Library. The Oceanside Public Library aims to empower the community by promoting literacy, information access, civic engagement, cultural inclusiveness, and openness to new ideas.
