Alta Vista Botanical Gardens Beneficiary of Girl Scout Silver Award Project

The project was funded through the sales of Girl Scout Cookies

September 12, 2019
Local Girl Scouts from Troop 4410 in Vista completed their Silver Award – a sustainable project to help the community. Girl Scout Cadettes Chiara Burrola, Grace Lee, and Shaylee Martinez presented keys to the newly built Welcome Kiosk at the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens in Vista to the board of directors.
The kiosk was built over 5 weekends in August and September. The cost of materials for the project ran nearly $1200. The project was funded through the sales of Girl Scout Cookies in the spring, Girl Scout Nut sales in the fall, and generous donations from various locations of The Home Depot totaling approximately $475.
The Silver Award is the second-highest award a Girl Scout can earn, and it is the highest award a Cadette can earn. Working through the silver award challenges the girls grow in areas of leadership, teamwork, goal setting, as well as analyzing and solving issues in our community. This Silver Award project is sustainable, it helps resolve an issue, and it helps the community.

Alta Vista Botanical Gardens is located in the hills of Vista above Brengle Terrace Park and the Moonlight Amphitheater. The Garden is comprised of fourteen acres of designated gardens, walking trails, works of art and community gathering areas.
