Alvano Nets Third Player of the Week Honors
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior Ethan Alvano of the Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14. This marks the fifth career player of the week honors and third in 2017-18. No player has received the award more than once this season.
Coming off a game-winning shot, Alvano lifted CSUSM to a pair of road victories over Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Playing in all 80 minutes of the action for the Cougars, Alvano averaged 32.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game

On Friday, he scored a team-high 26 points and helped complete a 21-point comeback over CSUEB. He followed up his team-leading performance with a game-high 38 points and eight assists at CSUMB. Alvano drained the game-winning three against the Otters with just .03 seconds remaining in regulation for the 84-81 victory.
This is his fourth game of the season with at least 30 points to his credit. Alvano currently leads the CCAA in points per game (21.8), field goal percentage (49.8), assists per game (6.6), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.50), steals per game (2.75) and minutes per game (34:18).
CSUSM will play one game this week as they host Stanislaus State on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
